2021, RAO Community Health
With support from UNCG’s Health and Human Services Department and funding from the CDC, we completed a Community Needs Assessment in December 2021. The assessment focused on COVID-19 and flu vaccinations and involved stakeholders from Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties. Data was collected through community stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and surveys, with feedback from nearly 300 individuals and entities.
Key findings included:
- The importance of partnering with non-traditional community members like activists and faith-based organizations.
- Communications tailored to address historical mistrust and specific audience needs.
- Multi-component strategies to overcome barriers to vaccine uptake, focusing on accessibility and perceived knowledge.
The assessment emphasized that a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective. Tailored outreach and communication, along with providing additional services like housing and nutrition, can improve vaccine administration. RAO aims to address these barriers with a holistic and equitable approach.
